In March 2015, Asia’s first fully hydraulic intelligent drilling rig, assembled at the Herrenknecht drilling rig base in the Suining Economic and Technological Development Zone, was officially commissioned to the Chuanqing 60001 drilling team of Chuanqing Drilling and Exploration in eastern Sichuan.
What makes this drilling rig “intelligent”? The advantage is that it is relatively safe, and the equipment system is also more stable, which can save labor to the maximum extent. Once its program is activated, it will work continuously according to the set program.”
The core technology of the intelligent drilling rig is its automation. Connecting and disconnecting drill pipes, as well as wellhead operations, do not require human intervention. The machinery operates according to pre-set programs, with operators only needing to press buttons and monitor videos. A single shift requires only four people to operate, maintain, and manage the entire set of equipment, reducing the number of personnel by nearly 60% compared to conventional rigs. Additionally, this equipment can be operated remotely using an iPad.
